I'm back to writing my hilariously entertaining titanium articles. Many of you have asked me what my favorite use of titanium is and I am torn between Robocop (a good guy) and the Terminator (a baddie turned goodie). The Terminator is a 1984 movie by James Cameron telling the classic story of a cyborg (half man, half machine) sent in time to kill Sarah Connor, the future mother of the leader of the human resistance in the future. Make sense? All you really need to know is that Arnold Schwarzeneggar played the Cyberdyne systems model 101 (T800) cyborg (NOT robot!) and that his metallic endo-skeleton is a hyper-alloy-combat chassis making him very strong, tough and heavy. What a shame the previous model the T-600, which was actually made out of titanium was discontinued from manufacture!! Allegedly the T-600s had rubber skins and could be easily spotted, so they upgraded to a model with better looking skin, hair and teeth. Ultimate objective: Rise of the Machines!
Even if you disagree with their end goals (to annihilate the human race) you have to admit the Machines' use of super-strong yet lightweight and corrosion resistant metallic replacement for calcium-based bones with titanium is a great choice. We are doing the same things today with biomedical implants. If you have a metallic implant in your body there is a 99% probability it is made out of titanium.
